Epitalon Care MapWhat epitalon studies leave unanswered
Aging question

Has epitalon been shown to extend life?

The key is to check which substance was studied, and whether it was tested in people.

The reviewed human studies did not measure whether epitalon extended people’s lives.

Where do the human longer-life claims come from?

They come from studies of epithalamin, an extract from a gland in cattle brains. Some people received it with thymalin, an extract from the thymus gland. They were not given epitalon.

Epithalamin and epitalon are separate substances in the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review.

The published summaries give limited detail about how people were put into groups or compared.

Those reports cannot establish that the man-made epitalon peptide helps people live longer.

What happened in animals?

In a mouse study from the reviewed research, epitalon did not raise the average lifespan. The longest-lived mice did live longer.

A fruit-fly study also reported longer lives. Those were animal results, not results in people.

A headline about the oldest survivors leaves out the answer for the average mouse.

Ask whether a headline describes the whole group or only a small part of it.

What about “younger” cells?

Chromosomes hold the instructions a cell uses to work. Telomeres are protective caps on their ends. Some studies reported that these caps grew longer after epitalon was added to cells in a lab dish.

A cell result is not a measured gain in a person’s lifespan.

The FDA also raised a cancer concern about this proposed effect. It is a concern about how epitalon may work, not a reported human cancer case.

What can I ask when a claim sounds certain?

Ask to see a study of epitalon itself in people. Check the treatment name before reading the results.

Then ask whether lifespan was measured. A paper about an extract, an animal, or a cell cannot answer the same question.
